Hi, I bought a LP-16 to be used as a backup HD in my band, seemed like an elegant solution, however there have been multiple critical issues:

    1) I could get a usb 2.0 flash drive to playback with LP-16, however transferring files to the drive was so slow, I couldn’t imagine me waiting for full day to update our files whenever I made a change..

    2) So I got a usb 3.0 flash drive (Lexar), which is plenty fast with 150MB/s read and 60MB/s write. I formatted it with LP-16. Transferring files using Utool was faster, but still quite slow, about tenth of the top speed the drive could handle. It could be the audio processing, but I don’t understand why Utool would take so much time processing the audio, when it isn’t resampling it. When I tried playback with this drive, it couldn’t play. LP-16 can see the files, but playback fails. Is LP-16 unable to playback from USB 3.0 drives? Hard drive isn’t an option for me since there’s shaking on stage.

    3) I couldn’t get the firmware to update for a long time. The firmware installer just freezed when I plugged the LP-16 in. Somehow I got it to work, don’t remember how.

    One minor thing:
    4) Some of the names of my files are quite long and Utool has problems displaying them. For example “Name_of_the_Song VERSION_WITH_LONG_INTRO_GUITARS” shortens to “Name_of_the_Song” in some places and “Name_of_the_Song VERSION_WITH…” in some places. The latter is much better, but the endings of the names are super important so there should be a way to view them in full. A tooltip could be an elegant solution. Full screen helps a bit.

EDIT: using Yosemite on a mac and newest Utool/firmware.

    Hi Qha,

1&2, The LP-16 compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 HDD’s and SSD’s as well.
You need to know there are the quick export mode in the uTool, this can be solution if you already have the audio content on your drive but you need to change something in the mixer or playlist in this case only the settings file and playlist (*.set; *.play) exported to the drive, which really fast.
You can also try to export the content to your local drive on your MAC than copy the content to the drive. (if you using this method, please make sure you copy the right folder structure to your drive.)

3, Good to hear finally you solved the firmware update issue. Sorry for that.

4, I’ll add this message as user feature request.

Can you please confirm your uTool version v2.0.34 ?
If you still not able to playback the songs please send me the *.set files form your songfolder on your USB drive. support_at_cymaticaudio_dot_com

Actually I hadn’t noticed 2.0.34 had come out. I’ll try exporting with that later this week and post the results here.

One more feedback suggestion, and this is a hardware one: 😛
I’ve talked to multiple bands and all agree that the ideal device for serious gigging would be a device with built-in ssd memory, that way you wouldn’t be dependent on usb-ports, usb-cables and the reliability and speed of the storage. Music business has a lot of accidents on the road, so it would be one less worry if you couldn’t break the usb-port by accidentally causing pressure to the flash drive / cable.

    Update:

The problem is with MT playlist mode only, single mode works. What could be the issue? When entering playlist mode it just says “song preloading failed” and “song playback failed”. Single mode seems to work great.

I tried to flash the firmware again, but it just says “Download ready.ERROR: ArchDl_GetDfuDeviceProperties failed. Error Code: 0xE00002C5”

Btw the text-areas are problematic in the device display too. I think long names should scroll when selected so you can see what version of the same song you’re selecting, if you name them like “Name_of_the_song Guitars_on_stage”.

    Hi Qha,

    Thank you for your feedback.
Those songs are located in subfolder inside of the Recording folder?
Can you please create a playlist with one single song, where the playback not possible and send me the content form your drive to me?
(this is what I need: The song folder inside of the Recording folder with the wav files and .set file; the .play file inside of the #PLAYLISTS folder)
Please send me those files using dropbox etc. to support_at_cymaticaudio_dot_com email address.

Regarding to the update problem this error message means “USB device is already opened”
Please make sure the LP-16 not selected as default interface in your Audio Midi settings panel.
Also make sure there’s no other audio related application running on your MAC during the firmware update.
    Please try the following thing:
1.Connect the LP-16 to your computer.
2.Turn it off then reboot your computer, but leave the LP-16 connected (turned off)
3.After the reboot process, start the firmware updater, when the application running please turn on the LP-16.
If still not success, remove the LP-16 but leave turned on, exit from the firmware updater then start it again and connect the LP-16 in turned on state.
I looking forward for your feedback

Hi. I Still get the error code “Download ready.ERROR: ArchDl_GetDfuDeviceProperties failed. Error Code: 0xE00002C5” even when trying all the methods listed. I’m using a Macbook Pro running El Capitan.

    Hi Jedale,

I’m still sure there’s some specific app running on you MAC which try to access to your device then that is blocks the firmware updater.
Some user already reported following this method they where able to update the device properly: https://mac-how-to.wonderhowto.com/how-to/close-all-open-apps-your-mac-with-single-click-0160064/
First connect your device to your MAC, follow this method to close all your running app then start the updater.

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing us your experiences.

1, This is a known issue, we going to fix this with the coming uTool version. In the meantime you can export the content to the local drive on your computer and copy the content to the USB drive with the file explorer on the computer.

2, The LP-16 compatible with USB2 and USB3 drives. To be honest have no idea what’s going on. Did you format the drive with LP-16?

3, Sorry to hear that bad experience with the USB updater, but glad to hear finally the update was successful.

4, In the uTool if I set to small window size, I can see the beginning and the end of the song name. Which place are you talking about?
    Please specify…
