hi there. I have a serious problem converting the recorded files via uTool2 software. we recently did long recordings (about 15Min.) partly very long (up to 1,5h) and I expected long editing times for converting. but it is now a real pain instead. each second run the software crashes, leaving corrupt mono-wav-files that are too small in size and unplayable. or the application finishes, saying “successfully imported”, but the destination folder has no files in it, 0KB. in short, the whole importing procedure becomes VERY annoying and I do not know what to do.
I am working on Mac Computers, parallel working with two, iMac behaves even worse :
    MacBookPro Start2011 13″, OS X 10.11.6, 2.7GHz i7, 8GB DDR3 RAM
    iMac Mid2011 27″, OS X 10.11.6, 3,4GHz i7, 16GB DDR3 RAM
    using uToolV2.0.034
importing from external USB 2.0 drive into internal drive

    so please help me !
if there is known trouble between uTool2 and OS X 10.11, do you know if there is another possible software for importing ? is the file written by the card a standard “poly-wav” file like field-recorders are writing ?

    Hi Tycho,

Sorry for the troubles you are having with uTool2. We will look into the import problems with the MAC version you have.
In the meantime, could you try with uTool version 1, which is available on the downloads site.

It is true that the songs are recorded into poly-wav files but each file is restricted to 2GB (around 10 mins of recording). You can open them with DAW’s that support these files.

However with 1.5 hours of recording, you will have around 10-15 2GB poly-wav files that you will have to align manually.

ok then. I think the actual version of uTool behaves buggy with OS X 10.6 in a way that it is practically not working.
after thinking about the polywav-format, I did remember another software tool, because I do not own protools, which could (possibly) deal with 32 tracks into polywav. the software is called “Wave-Agent” by SoundDevices. it is free! and since an update this year, it can handle 32tracks (only 16 before) due to their hardware recorders partly changed in that way too. and it works. I can now convert the files fast and safely ! example: a 1,5 hour recording took 9 hours with uTool2 and left my with an empty folder and a big disappointment. wave-agent did it within 30minutes. now I still need to “glue” the recordings together, which should work in Logic.

I have been having the exact same problem on Windows. What I have found is that when I import a “Take”, frequently the program will import all the wave files, but nothing would appear in the Take Folder in “AudioLib” would be completely empty when it finished.

I watched the folder the next time, since it looked like it was working. I found that the program was creating the files and then deleting them after I clicked OK on the confirmation screen that the import had succeeded. I could get the files, from the import if I copied them to another directory before pressing OK.

    What’s going on with that?

I simply stopped using uTool. the simple answer I was looking for is : use a professional DAW like Logic or ProTools to open and edit Polywav-files.
I am now using LogicX for that. it works fast (MUCH faster than uTool) and save. and with the “draw file to the left”-command it is easy to glue the files one after the other.

Does this happens with the stable or with the beta version?
Do you have checked the checkbox “import to project library”? in this case it should appear in your projects at the home tab. Please notice the uTool will import those files to subfolder. The subfolder has a name what you describe on the import tab “session” filed.

We already noticed many of you guys has problem with the uTool2 the new version is coming really soon which should solve all of those difficulties and performance issues

I have the latest version of the uTool on your website. Version 2.0.34 (Aug, 2016)

I’m having great success with the uTrack-X32, but the uTool seems extremely buggy and rather poorly conceived.

To begin with, it seems odd that the “Import” feature is buried on the 3rd tab of the GUI. Isn’t importing recordings the whole point? Yes the uTrack can play back, but that’s not why anyone is purchasing it.

Then when the uTool starts up, it gives a warning every time that states “Project Library Upgraded”. I have to check the “I understand button and press OK”. Even if I did it before, it has to do a “Project Library Upgrade” every time it starts. The funny thing is that this is the only version of uTool I have ever had, so there wasn’t ever a project library to upgrade.

Finally, this disappearing file problem… I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or not, but I did read and follow the instructions. I have had the problem on multiple computers, and with different sessions. It happens frequently but not always, and with multiple “Takes”, only the last disappears.

I know it is a lot of work to release a new product like this. Overall, I think you are doing a good job. You are communicative and very helpful in your support forums.

The only real problem I have now is the uTool. I really hope you are able to improve the program soon. So many of your products depend on it, and I feel like it’s really the weakest link. You could just depend on a 3rd party program, but then you should do that officially. If your own official method of importing audio doesn’t work reliable, I think it seems rather sketchy to perspective buyers.

Just wanted to say a quick THANKS to the Cymatic development team!

As of uTool v2.0.55 (Mar, 2017) everything works smoothly and reliably as expected.
