ParticipantI have the utrack 24. My mixer is a yamaha emx 5000-12. I am trying to connect the recorder to the individual channels of my mixer, but I do not have balanced direct outs on my board. I was wondering if it is possible to send the individual channels to the recorder through the insert jack. I recognize that I can only send unbalanced outs from the insert, so is this possible? What would the suggested wiring for a setup like that look like?

KeymasterHi,
To connect unbalanced signal to the uTrack24 inputs are shouldn’t be a problem.
You’ll need to feed only the “Singal +” and the ground.
But to get the singal back to the insert return you’ll need to have a resistor (150-220ohm) between the Tip and Ring connector on the TRS end of the cable.Attachments:26th August 2017 at 07:55 #28752Eugene Lubliner
ParticipantThanks for this info! It’s just what I need. Just so I’m clear, because this type of modification is a little out of my wheel house, I should only need one resistor that connects the tip to the ring? or do I need two resistors that connect the tip in series to the jack and the ring in series to the jack?
Also, should l disconnect the negative completely from the line going to the DB25 end? Or is adding the resistor enough?
Thanks!
Update: I’ve drawn up how I think I should modify the jack and have attached it to this post. The resistor is added between the tip and ring wiring, and then the ring wiring is cut in its way to the DB25 cable.
Is this right? THANKS AGAIN 🙂

KeymasterYes this is correct, you need to have a resistor between tip and ring and cut the ring wire which goes to DB25

ParticipantWhy is the resistor necessary between tip and ring? There is abundant literature that simply states that in order to use a mixer’s insert as a direct send, you simply need to connect tip and ring but not cut the ring. Is the suggestion below because of something specific to the uTrack24?

KeymasterNo the resistor isn’t must to have but it’s much nicer than the hard wired solution from the mixing console direct output perspective. But again, the hard wired solution also works.

ParticipantCan I get a copy of this pinout / schematic “Please” ???
