    Hi Christian,

The uTrack24 have balanced outputs, as the insert points are unbalanced you need to modify the TRS cable by removing the ring connection wire, and connect it to the GND, but in this case the signal will not going back to the insert return point so you also need to shortciruit the Tip to the Ring.

    Ok, thank you!

The audio level is not effected by using the inserts points, with mod. cables?
Same level as if I use the direct out?

    That’s depend on your mixer.

Usually the direct outs are balanced and send out the signal after the pre-amp stage, but the insert point are unbalanced, in this case the levels are not same.

    Ok..
If a mixer has balanced direct out and unbalanced insert points and I record first from the direct out and then from the insert point (with mod cables) without changeing the gain…?
Would there be to different recording levels? +4 and -10..?

Yes the levels will be different but this shouldn’t be a problem because you can change the levels later in your DAW.

    Hi
Utrack24 with moded dsub cables, recording from a mixer’s insert points vs LR-16 with standard TRS to TRS cables, recording from a mixer’s insert points. Is it the same, can the Utrack24 do the same job as the LR-16?

I wanth the Utrack24 to work on all my recording need’s: Direct out TRS, Direct out TS, Insert points, etc.

    Hi Christian,

Connecting the devices to different kind of outputs you will need a specific cable for LR-16 and uTrack24 as well.

Please take a look for the Connecting cables section in our FAQ https://cymaticaudio.com/support/faq

    Hi

I understand that I need different cables when recording from different outputs.
Is the Utrack24 made to record from Insert points as the LR-16?
If I get the Utrack24 and mod a cable as you describe to work on insert points, will that be as good as using a LR-16 and record from the insert points?

All I want to know is if the Utrack24 can do the same as the LR-16, and as good..
The manual did not mention anything about the Utrack24 record from insert points…

    Hi Cristian,

No the uTrack24 not designed to record from insert points.
If you take a look for the FAQ you can see the uTrack24 has balanced inputs and there’s no return signal from the connector. For this reason you’ll need a modified cable as I described in my first answer in this topic.
With the modified cable you’ll able to record unbalanced signal like the LR-16 as well.

😉 I think I know what Christian wants. I have a U-track 24 but I used to own the LR-16. I also own an Onyx 1640i which has insert points and 2 mini D-sub out conectors. I just now tried to run a “direct out” with the TRS that has the ring tied to the tip into the D-sub input of my U-track and it worked like a charm. Seems like I got all the volume I need and I can also run the D- sub out of my onyx board at the same time as I run the output cord out of the insert, both into the Cymatic and it will record both of them at the same time on different channels. You can buy a nice short cord adaptor from Hosa, that has the tip and ring tied together. That’s what I did, and they work great for running a “direct out” out of the insert on your board.
